Planner

We deliver comprehensive and high quality, advisory, construction, property management, facilities management and maintenance solutions to clients across the private and public sector throughout the North-West and elsewhere in the UK.

The Role

Key Responsibilities

You will be part of the Project Delivery team and play a pivotal role in ensuring projects are planned efficiently, delivered on time, and aligned with commercial and operational objectives.

Pre-Construction / Estimating

  • Develop detailed tender programmes to support competitive and compliant bid submissions.
  • Collaborate with the estimating and pre-construction teams to validate construction durations and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing preliminaries based on programme durations and logistics strategies
  • Provide planning input into the development of contractor’s proposals and tender presentations.
  • Analyse tender documentation and project requirements to inform programme assumptions and sequencing
  • Support early contractor involvement and engagement with design teams to align timelines with deliverables.
  • Attend site visits to support the Bid team in assessing site conditions, access constraints, and identifying design-related risks.
  • Identify potential site-specific risks and develop control measures, maintaining a live risk register throughout the pre-construction phase.

Planning & Programming

  • Create, manage, and maintain project programmes using Project Plan 365 or similar planning software.
  • Develop comprehensive master construction programmes that incorporate design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor and update programmes through all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with site progress and commercial targets
  • Carry out critical path analysis, resource and logistics planning, and sequencing reviews to optimise delivery.
  • Produce Client Facing critical path Programmes at start of project and then for every Client progress meeting throughout duration of Project
  • Produce short-term lookahead programmes and integrate subcontractor and supplier programmes into the master schedule.
  • Work collaboratively with site teams to track progress, adjust sequencing, and mitigate delays.  Weekly review meeting with Construction Director to provide overview of all live projects.
  • Conduct regular programme reviews and provide recovery plans when needed.
  • Develop and contribute to Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans (CPH&S), ensuring full compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Create site layout and logistics plans to support tender and construction activities, optimising space utilisation and site access.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities to obtain footpath closure, scaffolding, and hoarding permits where required, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.

Client & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Attend client and consultant meetings as the planning lead, presenting programme updates and forecasts.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all programme-related queries, providing insight into delivery timelines, dependencies, and milestones.
  • Coordinate with design and procurement teams to ensure planning input reflects real-time design progress and long-lead items.
  • Support the communication of project strategy, critical activities, and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide programme information to support applications for extensions of time and change control.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain planning documentation including baseline programmes, progress reports, delay analysis, and schedule risk assessments.
  • Maintain detailed programme logs, change registers, and assumptions documents.
  • Provide regular planning reports for internal and client distribution, highlighting key risks, constraints, and milestones.
  • Support post-completion analysis and lessons learned reviews.

General

  • Carrying out ad hoc duties as needed to support project and business success
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes and tools.

Requirements

    • Proven experience as a Planner in the fit out or refurbishment sector (commercial, retail, education, or leisure).
    • Proficiency in planning software such as Project Plan 365
    • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, logistics, procurement, and delivery planning.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Experience in both pre-construction and live project planning
    • Ability to manage multiple programmes and deadlines concurrently.
    • Good understanding of contractual implications related to time and programme.
    • In-depth knowledge of UK construction practices, CDM regulations, and health & safety compliance.
