The Momentum Group Co-Founder, Chris Bliss, shares his thoughts on Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is The Mental Health Foundation’s nationally recognised Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is ‘Kindness’ and never has there been a more poignant time to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff. We at The Momentum Group support this initiative and continue to strive for better mental health amongst our team members, workforce and supply chain.
The Mental Health Foundation states, 1 in 6 people will experience mental health problems in the workplace. However, with good mental health support it is reported that UK businesses can save up to £8 billion per year. Here at The Momentum Group, the mental health of our staff is as important as their physical wellbeing. A safe and healthy team ensures greater motivation which in turn will lead to higher productivity and greater outputs, but, most importantly, it means our team are healthier people and enjoy work and home life in parallel.
Earlier this year, we partnered with The Open Door Centre to provide a series of mental health workshops for our staff with themes throughout the year. Our first session was “Mental Health in the Workplace” an introductory session to break down the barriers and highlight the importance of good mental health for family, work and colleagues. Further sessions focussing on wider wellbeing messages will be introduced later in the year.
Our commitment now, is this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme, ‘Kindness’, which is prevalent in these uncertain times – community spirit, support and hope feature largely in helping others creating a sense of wellbeing in ourselves, reducing stress and improving emotional wellbeing.
Our acts of kindness can be as simple as giving a loved one a call, texting a friend who needs some support, or simply making a cup of tea, whatever we do, we are reminded that kindness matters and are being encouraged to create acts of kindness to support those around us.
We know our team at The Momentum Group will continue their acts of kindness with staff donations to the local Foodbank, supporting our neighbours, family, friends and colleagues along with The Momentum Foundation stretching out into our communities to help with local charities.
